Miandad named as Pakistan chief

Javed Miandad
Miandad turned down the chance to succeed Geoff Lawson as coach

Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad has been appointed director general of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Miandad, who turned down the chance to coach the team for a fourth time after Geoff Lawson's dismissal, is Pakistan's leading scorer with 8,832 runs.

"The main purpose of my appointment is to look after the cricketing affairs in the (cricket) board," he said.

"It's good that the new chairman of the board (Ejaz Butt) is inducting former Test cricketers in the PCB."

Four previous Test players have been appointed to the PCB after Butt took over from Nasim Ashraf last month.
