Shoaib originally received a five-year ban in April |
Shoaib Akhtar's participation in next month's Champions Trophy has been put in doubt as he has been ordered to pay an outstanding fine of around 86,000. The fast bowler received a surprise international recall after being named in Pakistan's 15-man squad last week. But the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) now insist Shoaib must pay the fine before he can play in the tournament. Shoaib has not played for his country since December, but had an 18-month ban for indiscipline suspended last month. The 32-year-old originally received a five-year ban in April when he publicly criticised the PCB after being overlooked for a central contract. | 606: DEBATE |
He was partially successful in appealing against the ban, with a tribunal reducing it to 18 months. The reduced ban was then suspended by the High Court in Lahore until the full case is heard in September, but the court did impose a fine in June. Last month, Shoaib's lawyer Abid Hasan Minto said his client would pay the fine only after the High Court made its final ruling in September. "I have received a notice from the PCB and have passed it on to my lawyer who will reply to the PCB," said Shoaib. The Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held from 12-19 September in Pakistan.
