Shoaib Malik will feel the influence of team manager Talat Ali

The move has come about after cricket chiefs in Karachi appointed a new selection committee following the woeful performance in the World Cup.

Zakir Khan, Pakistan Cricket Board's director of operations, said: "We have curtailed the power of the captain.

"The selectors will now finalise the playing XI for a home series."

Previously the selectors picked the squads while Inzamam, and coach Bob Woolmer, finalised the playing XI.

Zakir said the captain would now be consulted by the selectors on all matters but they would have the final say.

A committee including the manager, coach, captain and vice-captain would select teams on tour, with the manager given more say on selection issues.

Zakir said the changes were made to give the selectors more responsibility and to ease pressure on the captain.

Applications are being sought from prospective coaches to succeed Woolmer, tragically murdered in Jamaica in March.

Malik was appointed captain in April when Inzamam stepped down from the role and retired from one-day internationals after the team's first-round exit in the Caribbean.

The new selection committee, headed by former Test player Salahuddin Ahmed, was named by the board last month after the previous panel resigned.
