Shoaib has been told to stop bowling at Pakistan's training camp |
Pakistan paceman Shoaib Akhtar will miss the Test series against England because a stress fracture in his foot has not healed properly. He was left out of the 16-man squad announced on Thursday.
The squad is reliant on pace bowling with Mohammad Sami and Shahid Nazir recalled and only one specialist spinner, Danish Kaneria.
Pakistan play four Tests, starting on 13 July at Lord's, a Twenty20 match and five one-day internationals.
Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer said he was sad to have to leave the experienced Shoaib out of the squad.
He added: "We have done well in Test cricket in the last few series and we have a good set of players. But it is a going to be a hard tour."
Chief selector Wasim Bari said they could not chance Shoaib's fitness.
He added: "The selectors felt it was not right to take a risk with him as we have a lot of matches lined up including next year's World Cup.
"He will be considered to join the team later on when he starts bowling again. The selectors have recalled Shahid Nazir as his replacement."
