The Kiwis lost warm-ups to Australia and West Indies over the weekend and Vettori said the team had to improve.

"We have come out of a winter with two months of not much action and being indoors all the time," he said.

"It's been good to get some action and whilst we are getting some things right we need to get our game altogether to challenge in this tournament."

Vettori said the team would work on "simple things" in the nets.

"It's things like the execution of yorkers and building partnerships. From what we've seen so far that's what's going to win games."

Meanwhile, South Africa beat Australia by eight wickets in the final set of warm-up matches on Sunday.

South Africa's AB De Villiers said: "Victory is always important, especially against Australia because they're a well-drilled side.

"It wasn't just a warm-up game. It's a bit of a psychological advantage to beat the Aussies, and we're full of confidence going into the tournament."
