 | To start a World Cup with two wins from two, I think everyone's happy |
Spinner Daniel Vettori felt New Zealand's second-wicket stand of 105 was crucial to their victory by 148 runs against Kenya in St Lucia. "When you lose the toss on a wicket like that, you're always a little bit nervous, especially when you lose a wicket in the first over," he said.
"Stephen Fleming and Ross Taylor's partnership settled a few nerves and from then on, the day was ours.
"To start a World Cup with two wins from two, I think everyone's happy."
The left-armer took 2-45 in his 10 overs, also having several lbw appeals turned down, but did not find the conditions conducive to spin bowling.
"It was very slippery, and it was hard to get a lot of turn on the ball," Vettori explained.
"Sometimes when you play teams like this, they look to slog you first and block you later, so if you can get under that bat, it helps.
"But three sixes didn't help (my figures), and I'm struggling to buy a decision at the moment.
 | We dropped a number of catches and we missed run-out chances Kenya captain Steve Tikolo |
"I suppose Shane Bond and myself are the strike bowlers in this team, and we've got to live up to that." Kenya captain Steve Tikolo was less pleased with his side's display.
"It was a disappointing performance. We know we are capable of doing better," he insisted.
"In the field, we dropped a number of catches and we missed run-out chances. If we had taken those it would have been a different story.
"Our fielding wasn't up to the mark, our running between the wickets wasn't as good as it should be and batting-wise we need to get a good start."
