Sreesanth is known as one of India's more volatile players

Pace bowler Sreesanth has vowed to learn from his past misdemeanours after replacing the injured Praveen Kumar in India's 15-man World Cup squad.

Kumar, 24, has been ruled out with the elbow injury he suffered during India's one-day series defeat in South Africa.

Sreesanth has been fined and cautioned on numerous occasions, the most recent of which was for kicking the boundary rope during the tour of South Africa.

But he said: "With age and experience you learn and I have learnt a lot."

The 28-year-old was fined 10% of his match fee for his reaction to having two leg before wicket appeals turned down in the same over against South Africa.

He also had a fiery exchange of words with South African captain Graeme Smith during the Durban Test.

"I play with a lot of passion and people misunderstand my passion for aggression. I will play with passion and try to win for my country," said Sreesanth, who has picked up 75 wickets in 51 one-day internationals at an average of 32.

"I'm obviously happy [to be called up]. I was worried with my economy [rate] but over the last two years, from whatever chances I got, I managed to bring it down.

"Hopefully I will do a good job."

Kumar, who has taken 57 wickets in 48 one-day games at an average of 33.57, spent time in England trying to recover from his injury, but failed a fitness test on his return to India.

The opening game of the World Cup sees India travel to the Bangladesh capital Dhaka to take on their co-hosts on 19 February.
