Ishant Sharma's gesture was deemed "aggressive" by the ICC |
India paceman Ishant Sharma has been fined 15% of his match fee for an "aggressive gesture" to Andrew Symonds in Sunday's match against Australia. Sharma pointed Symonds towards the pavilion after bowling him in a one-day international which Australia won.
Match referee Jeff Crowe said: "Sharma may have been provoked and this was his first offence - hence the penalty was at the lower end of the scale."
The International Cricket Council has a "zero-tolerance" stance on abuse.
Australia, India and Sri Lanka are competing in the triangular CB Series.
And Crowe added: "Hopefully the teams in these remaining matches in the CB Series will focus on the business of playing and entertaining."
Meanwhile, Australia have been fined for a slow over-rate by their bowlers in the same match.

Captain Ricky Ponting was docked 20% of his match fee, while his team-mates were fined 10% after they fell two overs behind their target.
It was the second time this year that the Australians had been fined for a slow over-rate against India.
They had been warned by Crowe over their over rate after their third Test defeat in Perth in January.
On a busy day for the match referee in Sydney, India captain Mahendra Dhoni has agreed not to use the wicket-keeping gloves he wore at the start of the innings against Australia.
The match officials found his gloves had extra illegal webbing between the thumb and the forefinger - and Dhoni quickly changed them.
