Ford could be set for one of cricket's most high-profile jobs |
India's cricket board wants to speak to Kent boss Graham Ford about becoming the country's new national coach. Former Sri Lanka and Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore was the favourite for the post but has now been ruled out.
BCCI treasurer N Srinivasan, a member of the selection panel, said they would meet Ford and "another coach of foreign origin" on Saturday before deciding.
Ford was South Africa coach from 1999 to 2001, winning nine of 11 series, before taking the Kent job in 2004.
India have been looking for a coach after Greg Chappell quit following India's shock early exit from the World Cup.
Former Test all-rounder Ravi Shastri took charge of the team on a temporary basis for their tour of Bangladesh.
Many former India Test players and cricket pundits have argued that it is time for a home-grown coach after spells under Australian Chappell and New Zealander John Wright.
But it appears another foreign man is likely to get one of the most high-profile jobs in the game.
