Ganguly feels he performed OK in the Karachi Test match |
India's Sourav Ganguly has brushed aside speculation he might quit after the 1-0 Test series defeat in Pakistan. "I am playing well at present and hopefully I will continue to play well whenever given the opportunity," Ganguly told the Times of India.
He played in two of the three Tests in Pakistan but batted only got two innings, hitting 34 and 37 in Karachi.
Meanwhile, some newspapers are calling for national icon Sachin Tendulkar to be dropped after a run of low scores.
Ganguly summed up his performances in Karachi as "batting pretty well."
He said: "I put up two hundred-run partnerships and did OK."
Ganguly was sacked as captain and then axed from the one-day side after a dispute between him and coach Greg Chappell.
The Australia described the former captain as a "disruptive influence" in a leaked e-mail to the Indian cricket board in October.
And the Bengali has been in and out of the Test side since then.
Ganguly said he would be willing to open the innings in the upcoming home Test series against England if the team wanted him to do so.
Tendulkar's form is also a hot topic in India.
The Indian Express dared to use the headline "Endulkar" and former India player Ajit Wadekar said: "He is no longer the star performer of the team."
 | We believe Sachin's best is yet to come |
The former captain went on "This has taken away from Sachin his self-importance and brought upon him a pressure that only a player in his position undergoes.
"He is undecided about whether to attack or defend."
Tendulkar has averaged 29.23 in his last 15 Tests, but not everyone is ganging up against him.
An editorial in cricketnext.com stated: "We believe Sachin's best is yet to come. Yes, he will occasionally fail, falter and fall.
"But we will still see some knocks which will make the junta drool, and dance. The crackers will burst again."
Pressure on both batsmen comes from Mohammad Kaif, who hit 92 and 109 for Uttar Pradesn in the Ranji Trophy final.
A regular memebr of the one-day squad, Kaif said: "I've performed consistently over four matches.
"This has helped me send a message across to the selectors."
