The Indian cricket board insists it will not definitely withdraw the team from future Champions Trophy campaigns. India host this year's tournament in November and December but were thought to be opposed to the bi-annual event, believing it was played too frequently.
"We have not decided anything regarding future Champions Trophies but we are concerned that in a crammed calendar, it takes away a month," the BCCI said.
They now plan to discuss the issue with International Cricket Council chiefs.
Another factor to be addressed surrounds this year's tournament, with Indian officials concerned that the three current proposed venues will not be sufficient.
New Delhi, Mumbai (Bombay) and Calcutta have been selected so far and a BBCI spokesman said: "We have drawn attention to the fact that more than three venues might be required as there are 21 matches in the tournament."
Meanwhile, the BBCI have ruled out the possibility of Twenty20 cricket being played at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
"We don't want to play that version of the game for purely cricket reasons," a spokesman said.
That prompted criticism from the Delhi organizing committee, with chairman Suresh Kalmadi stating: "The cricket board needs to quickly decide whether or not it wants to be part of the Games."
A 50-over per side tournament could still feature, however, with Indian Olympic Association secretary-general Randhir Singh commenting: "We're keen to have cricket in the Commonwealth Games.
"It's for cricket officials to decide what version of the game they want to offer."
The Commonwealth Games Federation will decide in March on the inclusion of any new sport in the Games.
