Disappointing end to Wright reign
Sourav Ganguly and John Wright

John Wright ended his four-and-a-half year tenure as India coach on a low note as they lost the final one-dayer to Pakistan.

The former New Zealand captain decided against renewing his contract and would not reveal his future plans.

After losing the one-day series 4-2 despite going 2-0 ahead, Wright said: "It's very disappointing."

But he predicted a bright future: "I'm still confident that the Indian batsmen will regain their confidence."

Wright became India's first foreign coach and guided the side to Test series wins against Australia in 2001, Pakistan in 2004 and the World Cup final in South Africa.

India captain Rahul Dravid said: "He helped create a team culture. We've valued his contribution."

His successor has yet to be appointed although the frontrunners are believed to be Australians Dav Whatmore, Tom Moody and Greg Chappell.
