Ganguly told to rest sore elbow
Sourav Ganguly
Ganguly's row with coach Greg Chappell overshadowed his batting
India captain Sourav Ganguly has been told to rest for 10 days because he is suffering from "mild tennis elbow".

Ganguly had a scan on Thursday and was also examined by doctor Annad Joshi and team physio John Gloster.

"We are taking it conservatively," said Gloster, who has less than three weeks to get Ganguly fit for a one-day series against Sri Lanka.

Ganguly was recently embroiled in a row with coach Greg Chappell, who called for him to be replaced as captain.

And the injury could again put his position in doubt with the selectors due to name the skipper for the one-day series next week.

Mohammad Kaif will take Ganguly's place as captain of the India Seniors side for the Challenger Trophy tournament in Mohali, which starts on Monday.

Satyajit Parab has been switched to the Seniors from the India B side, with his original place going to Yousuf Pathan, the elder brother of Test paceman Irfan Pathan.

Batting star Sachin Tendulkar, meanwhile, is happy with his progress after having surgery to cure a persistent elbow problem earlier this year.

He will make his comeback in the Challenger event, which begins on Monday.

"There is a still a bit of discomfort, but that is because the body is settling down. It does not prevent me from playing my shots.

"There is nothing to worry about, according to my doctors. Things have prgresseed according to plan," he said.
