Indian fans will be pleased Tendulkar is on the road to recovery |
Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar has been ruled out of the September Test series in Zimbabwe as he has not fully recovered from an elbow injury. Tendulkar, 32, had been in a race to regain match fitness after undergoing surgery on his elbow in May.
Indian board secretary Karunakaran
Nair explained the decision.
He said: "Tendulkar has returned to light net sessions but he does not feel confident he is strong enough yet to return to the rigours of Test batting."
Uncapped batsman Dheeraj Yadav will be his replacement for
the two-match series which starts on 13 September.
Tendulkar is the fourth-highest scorer in Test cricket with 10,134 runs in 123 matches.
He has the highest aggregate in one-dayers with 13,642 runs in 348 matches, including a record 38 centuries.
He is also on the verge of passing compatriot Sunil Gavaskar's record of Test centuries, with both players having 34 to their names.
