Cricket World Cup: Michael Hussey to replace Bollinger

Australia have recalled veteran batsman Michael Hussey to their World Cup squad as a replacement for injured seamer Doug Bollinger.

Hussey was in the original 15-man squad but was replaced by Callum Ferguson after suffering a hamstring injury.

But the 35-year-old Hussey had indicated he would be fit again before the end of the group stages.

Hussey has played 151 ODIs, making 4,469 runs with a highest score of 109 not out and an average of over 51.

He will be available to play in Australia's fourth Group A game against Kenya in Bangalore on Saturday after successfully proving his fitness in a Sheffield Shield match with Western Australia.

Cricket Australia chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said: "Michael has successfully recovered from major hamstring surgery and is seen as someone who is capable of assisting Australia as we strive to win this tournament.

"His skill, experience, ability against spin and the fact that he provides a left-hand option in the middle order is seen as critical in our World Cup defence now that he has successfully recovered from injury."

Left-hander Hussey said: "Just going is a bit of a dream come true but to actually be there as part of a winning Australian team would be out of this world, so let's hope.

"I feel very excited and can't wait to get over there. I've had lots of messages from the boys already so I'm just excited to get over there really."

Victoria paceman Dirk Nannes will also travel to India on standby in case of any more bowling injuries.

"Dirk will train with the Australian World Cup squad and be fit, available and acclimatised in the event of an injury to a fast bowler, in particular a new-ball fast bowler, in the final stages of this tournament," added Hilditch.

"Dirk has been in excellent form and played a critical role in Victoria's recent Ryobi Cup victory and will be an excellent replacement bowler in the event of injury to a key opening bowler."
