Hauritz needed surgery after injuring his shoulder against England in Hobart

Australian duo Mike Hussey and Nathan Hauritz have been ruled out of the World Cup through injury.

Batsman Hussey has a ruptured hamstring while spinner Hauritz dislocated his shoulder in the second one-day game against England on 21 January.

Callum Ferguson and Jason Krejza are have been named as their replacements.

Captain Ricky Ponting expects to be fit for the tournament, which will be held in Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka, after recovering from a broken finger.

The 36-year-old batsman missed the final Ashes Test and entire one-day series against England but is confident he will feature in his fifth World Cup, which starts later this month.

"It's a lot better now than it was last week," said Ponting. "I've been back in the nets this week.

"I've had three good hits, so it's actually probably a bit further advanced than I thought it would be."

Cricket Australia had formally applied to the International Cricket Council technical committee for Ferguson and Krejza to replace Hussey and Hauritz in their 15-man squad.

Krejza made his one-day debut in Sunday's victory over England in Perth and has been selected ahead of fellow spinner Xavier Doherty who has a back injury.

Ferguson has been called up because Shaun Marsh, who had been favourite to replace Hussey, has a hamstring injury.

All-rounder Shane Watson, who won the Allan Border Medal, Australian cricket's top individual award, for the second successive year on Monday, is fully fit despite being rested for the final one-dayer against England.

Australia start the defence of their title at the six-week World Cup against Zimbabwe on 21 February.
