Lee will rejoin Australia squad

A fit Lee will be a major boost to Australia's Ashes hopes

Australia fast bowler Brett Lee will rejoin the squad for their last two one-day internationals against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.

Lee had been ruled out of the series - which is level at 1-1 - after having ankle surgery in January.

However, he has "progressed well" while training with his Indian Premier League (IPL) team in South Africa, according to Australia team doctor Trefor James.

"He will continue to train and be further assessed here," said James.

"Should his progress be far enough advanced, he may be considered for selection in the remaining two one-day matches and the Twenty20 match."

Although he has been working on his fitness with IPL side King's XI Punjab, Lee has not played in any games for them this year.

Australia have already been forced to make several changes for the series - drafting in seamers Stuart Clark and Doug Bollinger after injuries to Lee and Brett Geeves, while all-rounder Marcus North has replaced injured opener Shaun Marsh.

The third match against Pakistan takes place on Monday - with Lee back in contention for the fourth and fifth games on 1 and 3 May, plus the Twenty20 international on 7 May.
