Pakistan await Australia verdict

Andrew Symonds
Symonds is uncomfortable with the prospect of travelling to Pakistan

Australian officials will decide in the next few days whether Ricky Ponting's team will tour Pakistan this month.

Doubts have been raised due to the region's unstable political situation since former prime minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in December.

Several players have voiced concerns about visiting the troubled nation including Andrew Symonds and Ponting.

"We should know in one or two days' time," said Pakistan Cricket Board chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi.

"The indications are Cricket Australia will decide after they have a board meeting."

Spokesman Peter Young said the Cricket Australia board would be discussing the issue in the next few days.

"We would like to make a final decision soon as the tour is due to start on 29 March," he added.

Australia have already cut the tour back to two Tests and four one-dayers from the original three Tests, five one-dayers and one Twenty20 game because of security concerns.

Symonds said he would think very hard about touring Pakistan because of the political problems there.
