Former Test opener Justin Langer is to retire from Australian state cricket.

The 37-year-old will play in his last four-day domestic match for Western Australia in the Pura Cup clash with Tasmania, which starts on Friday.

Langer, who will play for Somerset this season, played 105 Tests for Australia before leaving Test cricket in 2007.

"It is a sad thing for me to say, and probably a tougher decision than retiring from Test cricket, because that's the end of my career," he said.

"Physically and technically I could probably keep doing it but the fire has gone out.

"The game of cricket has meant absolutely everything to me since I was a little kid - scoring a hundred used to mean I was happy for a couple of weeks.

"So because it does not mean everything to me, it is time to walk away."

Langer will fulfil his commitments with Somerset before joining the Indian Premier League for two seasons.
