Symonds keen to make fast return
A Symonds
Australia have struggled while Andrew Symonds has been injured
Australia's injured all-rounder Andrew Symonds, a vital element of their one-day side, wants to play as much of the World Cup as possible.

But coach John Buchanan is concerned he will re-injure his arm by rushing back.

Symonds has had recent surgery on a torn bicep and is not worried about snapping the tendon again.

Buchanan suggested the player "might be ready for about round three of the Super Eights" on 3 April, while the player is eyeing up 24 March.

That is the date of Australia's match against South Africa - their third group game, but first against tough opposition.

Symonds, speaking to his local paper, the Brisbane Courier-Mail, said: "The World Cup is a big deal to me.

"It's not the end of the world if I snap [the bicep] again, it can heal and be OK.

"So I'm not too worried about it if it goes again because I know I'll be okay. If it goes, it goes."

The selectors have indicated that Cameron White, devastated to miss selection in the squad, would replace Symonds if he failed to regain fitness for the later matches of the tournament.
