Lee is in the squad after missing the World Cup in the West Indies |
Australia are to give their one-day World Cup winners the chance to prove themselves at the Twenty20 equivalent in South Africa in September. A 30-man squad has been cut to 15 and Australia have opted for proven stars ahead of specialist Twenty20 players.
"Australia has not played a lot of Twenty20 but we see no reason to doubt they will be able to adapt quickly," said chief selector Andrew Hilditch.
Pace bowler Brett Lee makes the squad after overcoming an ankle injury.
Lee missed Australia's victorious 50-over World Cup campaign in the West Indies but takes the place of the retired Glenn McGrath for the competition, which takes place between 12-24 September.

"It's fantastic to have Brett Lee back, fully fit and resuming his spot in the Australian side," added Hilditch.
"He's back to training and raring to go."
The biggest name to miss out is Cameron White, whose 141 not out for Somerset is the highest individual score in Twenty20 history.
The squad for the one-day series in India has also been named and the only difference is Brad Haddin will miss out on that 14-man set of players.
Australia's Twenty20 squad: Ricky Ponting (captain), Adam Gilchrist, Nathan Bracken, Stuart Clark, Michael Clarke, Brad Haddin, Matthew Hayden, Brad Hodge, Brad Hogg, Michael Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Andrew Symonds, Shaun Tait, Shane Watson.
