McGrath remains Australia's premier seam bowler |
Glenn McGrath is reportedly interested in a short spell of county cricket before next winter's Ashes series. The Australian seam bowler is currently taking a break from international cricket because his wife has cancer.
But his manager, Warren Craig, says he is determined to help Australia avenge their defeat by England in 2005.
"We'll talk to the selectors about whether it might be best for him to play a month of county cricket before then," Craig commented.
McGrath, now 36, is the most successful seam bowler in Test history, having taken 542 wickets in 119 matches at a cost of only 21.5 runs each.
He has played county cricket for Worcestershire and Middlesex in the past.
They each have a full complement of overseas players for the new season; Phil Jaques and Zaheer Khan having agreed contracts with Worcestershire, and Scott Styris and Johann Louw on the staff at Lord's.
Styris will be missing for the early part of the season while New Zealand are on tour in South Africa, but it is likely McGrath would prefer a county stint in the latter part of the summer.
