Gillespie gets vote of confidence
Jason Gillespie
Gillespie has taken 21 first-class wickets this year
Australia's selectors have given pace bowler Jason Gillespie hope of a Test recall after his return to form in domestic cricket.

Gillespie was dropped after he claimed 3-300 in the first three Ashes Tests but he has taken 21 wickets at 21.52 in six first-class games this season.

"It's not too late, he's only 30," said chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns.

"It's up to him. He's got to be bowling how he was before the Ashes and we've got to make a judgement on that."

Australia tried out several fast bowlers in one-day games this year amid fears they lack depth behind Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee.

Stuart Clark, Mick Lewis, Mitchell Johnson and Brett Dorey have all made their limited-overs debuts.

Hohns, who was watching South Australia's game against Victoria in Adelaide, was also impressed by the return of Shaun Tait from shoulder surgery.

"We know what Shaun can do," said Hohns of the exciting 22-year-old, who made his Test debut during the Ashes.

"The ideal for him is to get back playing cricket, get some performances on the board and then it's over to us, provided the opportunity is there."

"It's good to see him playing again and I must admit he's probably bowling a little quicker than I thought he would."

Australia, who are currently involved in the one-day VB Series at home, play three Tests in South Africa in March and are then due to tour Bangladesh.

The Ashes begin in Australia in November.
