Atapattu's battling knock helped gain the upper hand for Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka dismissed Pakistan for just 168 in only 38 overs to win the Paktel Cup by 119 runs in Lahore on Saturday.

Sri Lanka recovered from losing their first wicket without a run on the board to rattle up 287, Kumar Sangakkara top scoring with 68 off 69 balls.

Pakistan started solidly but their middle order offered little resistance to Sri Lanka spinners Upul Chandana and Sanath Jayasuriya.

Jayasuriya picked up 5-17 off eight overs to wrap up victory for Sri Lanka.

Chandana was more expensive but picked up a couple of vital wickets as he claimed 3-56 off 10 overs.

Salman Butt top scored for Pakistan with 40, while Shoaib Malik managed 37.

Pakistan won the toss and must have been feeling confident when they had Sri Lanka 0-1 after the first over.

However, Sri Lanka captain Marvan Atapattu (66) combined with Sangakkara to put on 106 for the third wicket and give his side the upper hand.

Mahela Jayawardene (49) and Tillekeratne Dilshan (39) also weighed in, while Chaminda Vaas ended the innings with a flourish as he deposited the final delivery for six.
