 Tendulkar's 141 was not enough to secure a second win |
India captain Sourav Ganguly paid tribute to Sachin Tendulkar's century in a losing cause against Pakistan in the second one-day international. Tendulkar hit 141, and extended his one-day record past 13,000 runs in the process, but he could not stay in to save his side from a 12-run defeat.
"Sachin batted outstandingly on a difficult wicket - he played superbly," said Ganguly.
"It was not an easy wicket to bat on and a total of over 600 was a lot."
Ganguly said he believed India could have saved the match had an established batsman stayed to the end. Mohammad Kaif was the last recognised batsman dismissed, Shahid Afridi's third wicket with five overs remaining and 46 runs still required.
"It is very difficult to spot a turning point because it went down to the wire," Ganguly said.
"When Kaif was out that made the difference. Balaji and Powar kept fighting but we needed a batsman in there."
