Ashes: Tim Tremlett backs son Chris to replace Broad
Tremlett took 4-54 in Australia A's first innings in Hobart
Chris Tremlett is the ideal replacement for the injured Stuart Broad in the England side for the third Ashes Test, according to his father Tim.
The 29-year-old Surrey paceman is up against Tim Bresnan and Ajmal Shahzad for a place in the team in Perth.
The trio will lead the England attack in the three-day tour match against Victoria, starting on Friday.
Ex-Hampshire seamer Tremlett senior said: "He's a like-for-like replacement for Stuart in a way, being 6ft 8ins."
He added to BBC Radio Solent: "He's got a chance so fingers crossed.
"But it all depends on the pitch because Perth has got a reputation for having a quick, bouncy wicket, so the selectors will weigh up all these things."
And his father believes he is a better bowler than when he faced India at The Oval in his last Test match.
"He's happier now than when he last played for England and he's now a more consistent bowler," added Tim.
"Shahzad and Bresnan will be chomping at the bit as well and when they get out in Melbourne for the three-day game they'll be out to prove they should be selected as well, but Chris is in with a good chance."
Tremlett junior's call-up for the tour followed an impressive first season at Surrey, during which he took 48 first-class wickets following his move from Hampshire.
"The move to Surrey has worked well for him and he had a good season last year," he added. "It's disappointing from my point of view that he isn't playing for Hampshire anymore but he is happy playing in a different environment. It's all worked well."
