All-rounder Tim Bresnan feels England are well placed to seal a 2-0 series win over Bangladesh on Wednesday.

"We're in a great position," he said. "It's been slow but we accelerated today and we're sniffing a result."

England trail by 95 and must first take the final four wickets. "They don't play as many shots as the top order so you get less chances," Bresnan said.

"Some would argue the lower half is harder to get out than the top so we've still got a lot of hard work to do."

Bresnan, playing his fourth Test, resumed on 74 on the penultimate day and reached 91 in only his second Test innings, before he advanced down the wicket to Abdur Razzak, made no contact and was stumped.

"It's the only one that's spun and bounced in the last two days and if you look at the replay it's hit one of the little pieces that's come out so I count myself unlucky," he told BBC Sport.

"I'm feeling quite happy with myself for the contribution for the team, 90 runs on that wicket is a lot of runs. Another nine would have been ideal but I'm sure, well hopefully, I'll get lots more chances to get a Test hundred."

Asked about bowling on unresponsive wickets in the extreme heat of Mirpur he said: "For the seamers especially if you chip in and take one or two wickets an innings you think 'I've bowled well there.'

"You get the newness of the ball and you get another bite with the reverse swinging ball, and the spinners whirl away and see what they can get at the other end, so it's a patience game out there.

"I've got a competition going with Stewie [Stuart Broad], I've seamed about three and he's got about four so it's not moving much with the new ball but it's reversing well and Stevie Finn bowled superbly well with the reverse swinging ball which just shows what a talent he is."

Bresnan has been a key component of the England side since being called into the squad as cover, taking seven wickets at an average of 30 in addition to his assured half century with the bat.

"You've got to take the chances when you get them and I'm grabbing mine with both hands," he said.
