Twenty20 tour match, Sharjah: England Lions 184-5 (20 ovs) bt UAE A 132-7 (20 ovs) by 52 runs Bell is in the full England Test squad to tour Bangladesh in March |
England Lions began their tour of the United Arab Emirates with a comfortable 52-run victory against the UAE A team in a Twenty20 match in Sharjah. Michael Lumb top-scored with 42 off 32 balls in a total of 184-5. Craig Kieswetter made 31, Ian Bell hit two fours and two sixes in an unbeaten 37 and Peter Trego fired three sixes in 25 off 10 balls. Spinner James Tredwell struck with his second ball and finished with 3-22 as the hosts were restricted to 132-7. UAE openers Indika Sampath and Amjad Ali gave their side a flying start and were in touch with the run rate in excess of nine per over. But the introduction of 27-year-old Kent off-spinner Tredwell in the sixth over changed the complexion of the contest. Tredwell, selected as cover for the winter Test series in South Africa and named in the squad for the senior tour to Bangladesh next month, struck in each of his first three overs. Lancashire seamer Sajid Mahmood conceded 19 in his first over but Trego struck twice in three balls as the Lions secured a straightforward win. The England second string side play the first of three Twenty20 matches against a Pakistan A side in Sharjah on Friday. They play the full England team in a Twenty20 match on 17 February before facing Pakistan A in three 50-over one-day matches.
