England bowler Ryan Sidebottom has urged his team to show their resolve again and save the final Test after a "frustrating" day against South Africa.
Sidebottom, who took 2-98, said: "We're disappointed with the way we performed. We didn't bat well enough.
But he added: "I think we stuck to our task very well and thought we deserved more wickets.
"We've got to fight really hard and show what character we have - as we have in the last three Tests."
England had enjoyed a fine start to the third day in Johannesburg, taking three quick wickets to leave South Africa on 235-5.
However, they face a heavy defeat after the hosts made 423-7 and England ended on 48-3, trailing South Africa by 195 runs.
If you're 40 for four in the first innings it's a tough ask to come back from that

"In any Test, if you're 40 for four in the first innings it's a tough ask to come back from that," said Sidebottom, who was a surprise replacement for Graham Onions in the starting line-up.
"In the wickets column, I maybe deserved a couple more - but that's cricket."
The Nottinghamshire paceman added: "We've just got to keep going. It's not about the 11 - there's 16 or 17 of us in the squad.
"When the chips are down and we've looked like losing, we've come back well."
Sidebottom was among the bowlers to suffer when AB de Villiers seemed to edge to wicketkeeper Matt Prior.
The batsman was given not out by on-field umpire Tony Hill but, having used up England's quota of two referrals per innings, captain Andrew Strauss was unable to refer the decision.
When asked about the referral system, Sidebottom replied: "It's out of our hands and the authorities will sort that out.
"Maybe the Hot Spot or the Snickometer could be used in the future, too. If you're going to use technology, you might as well use it all. Either way, it needs to be sorted but we'll just get on it."
And on being recalled after a 10-month gap, he said: "It's absolutely fantastic to be back in an England shirt.
"It's been a long road, what with injuries and not being selected, but I'm pleased to be back."
