Collingwood is due to play in the Champions League in India |
Paul Collingwood is to undergo a scan on a muscle injury when he returns to England from South Africa. All-rounder Collingwood hurt a buttock muscle when batting against Australia in Friday's Champions Trophy defeat. England coach Andy Flower said: "He's going back to England with us and will have a scan. A proper assessment and decision will be made." The injury could threaten Collingwood's participation in the Champions League event between 8-23 October in India. | It's a genuine injury. We don't know how bad it is England coach Andy Flower |
The 33-year-old Collingwood is contracted to play for Indian Premier League side Delhi Daredevils in the 20-over club competition. "We have a contract with the IPL about making our players available, however Collingwood has picked up a little niggle in his buttock," added Flower. "It's a genuine injury. We don't know how bad it is but he definitely did something when he played one of his first pull shots on Friday against Australia. "He actually struggled through the game with that problem. It's not in any way trying to get him rest." | 606: DEBATE |
England, who were beaten by Australia in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy, are due to return to London on Sunday. They fly back to South Africa on 31 October, where they will play in all formats almost non-stop until 18 January. They are yet to name their squads, with plenty of interest concerning the fitness of Kevin Pietersen, who has been out since the Lord's Test against Australia with Achilles problems.
