Pace bowler Stuart Broad will sit out the final two games of England's one-day series against Australia because of a knee tendon problem.

Broad joins Luke Wright on the sidelines, with England 5-0 down in the seven-match series against Australia.

However, England are confident Broad will be fit for the Champions Trophy in South Africa later this month.

All-rounder Wright has an injured big toe after being hit by a ball while facing a bowling machine in the nets.

The England and Wales Cricket Board will assess Wright's fitness next week ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, which begins on 22 September.

England play their opening game against Sri Lanka three days later in Johannesburg.

"Stuart has had a niggling injury to his right knee for some time which had been manageable and until recently had not led to him missing any cricket," said England chief medical officer Nick Peirce.

"This ongoing niggle, a tendinopathy, or inflammation to the tendon, has recently flared.

"This requires rest and as a result Stuart won't be available for England's final two matches of the NatWest Series. We expect Stuart to play a full part in the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy after which time he will undertake a strengthening programme prior to England's tour of South Africa.

"Luke, meanwhile, continues to make good progress after splitting his left big toe last Monday and he'll be re-assessed at the conclusion of the NatWest Series."
