Former Australia coach Buchanan will be on the opposite side this summer |
Former Australia spinner Shane Warne has taken a swipe at his old coach John Buchanan's decision to work in England. Buchanan starts a short-term role coaching England's youngsters later this month although he will not be directly involved with the senior side. Warne, an outspoken critic of Buchanan in the past, said: "I think that's a great move because that means we've got more of a chance. "Hopefully he will be doing his stuff and overcomplicating things." He added: "I reckon it gives our chances a big boost and makes our blokes more hungry." Buchanan's duties will include reviewing coaching programs and working with the Under-19 side and the British Lions team. But his replacement as Australia coach, Tim Nielsen, believes his influence will have no bearing on this summer's Ashes. | 606: DEBATE |
He said: "I'm not sure if he does know our secrets, it's been a couple of years now since he's finished. "We've had 14 or 15 players that have turned over since John was coach and we play a different way now. "All the ideas in the world are great but in the end it's the 11 players on the ground being well prepared, executing their skills. "It can't hurt and it won't hurt. It will certainly make us sit up and take notice of what he's got to say and add another dimension to the Ashes series, I'm sure."
