Gayle was West Indies' second-highest scorer with 31 at Bristol
West Indies captain Chris Gayle has urged his team to forget their previous performance and focus on winning their final one-day game against England.
The teams meet in Edgbaston on Tuesday with England leading the series 1-0 after a six-wicket win in Bristol.
But Gayle insists a victory would give his team a much-needed morale boost ahead of the World Twenty20 in June.
"Our main focus is to square this series, get over that hurdle, then get ready for the Twenty20," said Gayle.
"We are not going back through history. It has happened. But at the same time it has been disappointing so far."
Only Dwayne Bravo displayed any resilience with a defiant half century in Bristol on Saturday, although the all-rounder's removal saw six wickets fall for just 32 runs as the tourists were dismissed for 160, with 11.3 overs of their 50-over allocation unused.
"I am more concerned about the batting department than anything else," said Gayle, who saw the first match of the three-game series abandoned because of heavy rain at Headingley.
"You need runs on the board and we have seen how well England have handled themselves."
Despite their abject performance in Bristol, West Indies have talent in abundance with the likes of Gayle, Bravo, Ramnaresh Sarwan, and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, all capable of producing a match-winning innings.
Coach John Dyson admitted: "We have been disappointed with the results. They have shown that under conditions which are different to the Caribbean, the guys and their techniques struggle a little bit.
"We can play better cricket and we would like to prove that."
England fast bowler Stuart Broad insists they will not be underestimating their opponents at Edgbaston
"Saturday means nothing if we don't win on Tuesday," Broad, who impressed with 4-46 in the second one-dayer, told BBC Radio Five Live.
"They will look to come back fighting and this series is still open, so it's up to us to make sure we put them under pressure."
"We have been practising hard making sure everything is positive leading into Tuesday."
Broad believes the team are capable of winning without Andrew Flintoff, who is recovering from knee surgery.
"Fred is the the sort of bowler who gets thrown the ball in an important situation but when he's not in the side someone else gets given the ball and takes responsibility," he said.
"I think we've done that well when he's not been in the side and that can only be good because when we get in a pressure situation with Fred in the side, Andrew Strauss will have options.
"You can't rely on one or two players and you only have to look what Australia do if (Ricky) Ponting is out, they bring someone in who steps up and takes responsibility.
"It's important you don't rely on certain players to do the same sort of jobs. Everyone needs to step up and have the skills to be able to adapt."
Sunny intervals are forecast for Birmingham on Tuesday, with showers expected later in the day.
