Gayle's innings on Sunday came to an abrupt end because of injury

West Indies captain Chris Gayle is facing up to 14 days on the sidelines because of a torn hamstring.

The 29-year-old picked up the injury on Sunday, on the third day of the fifth Test against England, and was forced to retire hurt on completing his hundred.

Gayle batted with a runner on day four, adding just two to his total, and also bowled during England's second innings.

He dismissed rival captain Andrew Strauss to help his side's quest to avoid defeat and win the Test series.

But Gayle will need to rest the injury after the series finishes and could miss the Twenty20 international on 15 March and the start of the five-match one-day series on 20 March.

The skipper reached his 10th Test ton with a quick single but in doing so injured his hamstring and retired hurt.

On reaching the opposite crease to confirm his century, his exertions left him in a crumpled heap with a damaged hamstring.
