Mohali staged a Test featuring Australia as recently as October

England's second Test against India will take place in Mohali after the venue was given security clearance.

The English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the Test would go ahead on 19 December following an inspection.

The match was moved to Mohali from Mumbai following the November terror attacks in the southern metropolis.

"We've gone through the list ticking off the minimum requirements," said Sean Morris, chief executive of the Professional Cricketers' Association.

"The actual level of security that we will end up with will be very similar (to Chennai) because the ECB security advisors have got pretty strict criteria," added Morris.

"It's a very different area of India, culturally it's a huge change from Chennai so it's going to be interesting and the guys will see a difference straight away. The hotel is fantastic and a lot more modern than Chennai so immediately you feel very comfortable."

England's preparations for the Test matches have been unusual, practising first in Abu Dhabi before heading to India, where they have been afforded unprecedented levels of security for a cricket match.

Security has been heightened in Chennai - itself a venue switch from Ahmedabad - for Thursday's first Test, with undercover armed officers in the ground to protect the players.
