England seal Hong Kong sixes win

England clinched the 2008 Hong Kong Cricket Sixes on the last ball in a thrilling final against Australia.

Ashley Giles's side were consistently the best team over the two days but saved the best until last, posting the highest score of the weekend of 121-1.

Australia raced to 89-0 but at 120-3, and needing two runs off the last ball, Stephen O'Keefe was run out and England won by virtue of losing fewer wickets.

England earlier beat South Africa, Hong Kong and Australia in the round robin.

The victory was England's fifth at the Sixes and ensured they took home the �56,000 prize money.

"It was a great game of cricket," said Giles. "I thought we got a good score, maybe could have got a bit more, but Australia played really well to fight back.

"To win one like that was great. It showed great character from the lads."

In contrast the All Stars team - boasting the likes of Matthew Hoggard, West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul and former Australia opener Justin Langer in their line-up - never really got into their stride over the weekend.

They eventually finished seventh overall after losing the Plate final to Pakistan by three runs.

However, Langer, 37, admitted he enjoyed the whole experience in his first appearance at the event, saying: "It has been a great tournament. Hong Kong is a fantastic city.

"We didn't play very well in the end but it has all been a great experience and I'd love to come back next year."
