Vaughan has struggled with the bat since quitting as England skipper
Michael Vaughan will not tour India and is to take a three-month sabbatical from international cricket, the England and Wales Cricket Board has confirmed.
ECB national selector Geoff Miller said Vaughan's poor form since stepping down as England captain meant he would not be included in the Test squad.
"Michael's place cannot be justified based on recent form," said Miller, who expects Vaughan to "work on his game".
The squad for the India tour will be named by the ECB on Monday.

The ECB has talked at length with the 34-year-old, and Miller claimed Vaughan was happy with the outcome.
"He fully understands the reasons for the selectors' decision and has made clear to us that he is fully committed to winning back his place in the England Test side," said Miller.
"Our view is that it will be to England's benefit if he takes a break from international cricket in the period leading up to Christmas and spends time working on his game.
"Like all centrally contracted players, Michael will be given a clear programme over the next six months which will include training and match practice over the winter period."
Vaughan - who was awarded a central contract earlier in September - will now set his sights on the spring tour of the Caribbean, or the 2009 Ashes.
Miller added that no long-term decision on Vaughan's future with the England team had been taken.
"With a busy period of international cricket on the horizon, we would like to stress that he remains very much part of our plans over the coming year," he said.
Since stepping down as England captain on 3 August, Vaughan has struggled to assert himself with the bat for Yorkshire.
He missed the county's final match against Sussex with a side strain, leaving him with a total of 41 runs from his last four Championship innings.
