England set for Twenty20 practice

England have made their one-day squad available for Wednesday's opening round of Twenty20 Cup county matches.

Coach Peter Moores hopes it will help his players prepare for the Twenty20 International against New Zealand.

The 14-man squad will assemble next Thursday prior to the following day's international at Old Trafford, which precedes five one-day internationals.

"We felt the best way to prepare was by playing Twenty20 cricket for their counties," said coach Moores.

"The players enjoy the Twenty20 format and this will be an excellent opportunity for them to gain valuable match practice and sample the excitement and atmosphere generated by our own domestic competition," added Moores.

Three members of the squad - Nottinghamshire trio Ryan Sidebottom, Graeme Swann and Stuart Broad - will not get a match next Wednesday as their county does not have a fixture.

CRICKET: DEBATE

England's one-day captain Paul Collingwood will be keen to find some form next Wednesday given he has scored just 63 runs in all forms of cricket this season.

England players available: Paul Collingwood (Durham) v Derbyshire, James Anderson (Lancashire) v Leicestershire, Tim Ambrose, Ian Bell (Warwickshire) v Glamorgan, Alastair Cook, Ravi Bopara (Essex) v Surrey, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Kevin Pietersen, Chris Tremlett (Hampshire) v Middlesex, Owais Shah (Middlesex) v Hampshire, Luke Wright (Sussex ) v Kent.
