England make a shaky start as they look to build a big lead on day three, with Alastair Cook dropped by Brendon McCullum There is no such escape for Michael Vaughan, who edges Kyle Mills and McCullum holds on to dismiss the skipper for 13 Cook recovers from his scare to make a half-century and, together with Andrew Strauss, take England to 106-1 at lunch But after a quiet period following the break, Cook edges Mills to slip, where Stephen Fleming takes a good low catch Strauss is trapped lbw by Jacob Oram moments later to make it 129-3 but England have a lead of 273 at that point Kevin Pietersen, who has not had the best of winters, again fails to get on top of the New Zealand bowlers Pietersen is unlucky though, when Chris Martin deflects a drive from Ian Bell on to the stumps and runs him out Bell looks in good touch but is out for 41 as England lose five wickets for 58 runs before the close of play Collingwood marshalls the tail but is the last to fall, trapped lbw by Gillespie for 59 in the final over of the day At the close England have one second-innings wicket in hand but a commanding lead of 421 as they look to level the series
