Flintoff was playing his first game since the World Twenty20 last year |
Andrew Flintoff made a low-key return in his first match since September as England Lions secured a dramatic three-wicket win over Mumbai in India.Flintoff is making yet another comeback after a fourth ankle operation.
He scored just four and did not bowl as the Lions won with a ball to spare on Tuesday, although he did take a catch.
But Lions coach David Parsons said: "Judging by the look on his face when he went out to bat, he was just happy to be out there again."
Flintoff last played for England in the World Twenty20 in South Africa in September and had his fourth ankle operation a month later.
The coach said the all-rounder came through with out any problems and added there was "never any intention" for the Lancashire man to bowl in the game.
"He has trained really hard in the few days he has been out here with us, and worked hard in the nets," said Parsons.
"His bowling is not at the top of his list of priorities at the moment - it's more about getting the mileage back in his legs."
Liam Plunkett hit a six off the penultimate ball of the match to secure victory in the first of three one-day tour games.
Michael Carberry paved the way for the Lions' pursuit of 269 with a superb century, his second of the tour, while Adil Rashid also impressed with two wickets and a 12-ball unbeaten 22.
