Flintoff was a late withdrawal from the match at The Oval |
Andrew Flintoff will stay with the England squad ahead of Saturday's final NatWest series game with India despite the problems with his left ankle. The 29-year-old missed Wednesday's game at The Oval after seeing his surgeon, but will have treatment in a bid to be fit for Saturday's game at Lord's.
England will hope he recovers in time for Sunday's flight out to the ICC World Twenty20 in South Africa.
Ravi Bopara has already been ruled out of that tournament with a thumb injury.
Seamer Chris Tremlett is also a doubt for the Twenty20 competition, which starts on 11 September, after having an injection in an inflamed ligament in his right ankle and will be reassessed on Thursday.
England will wait for fitness updates on Flintoff and Tremlett before naming any replacements for the tournament in South Africa, where they have been drawn alongside Australia and Zimbabwe in the group stage.
Their opening game is against Zimbabwe in Cape Town on 13 September.
