Broad eager for Test debut chance
Stuart Broad
Broad underlined his potential with five wickets for England Lions
Fast bowler Stuart Broad insists he will "grab" the opportunity with "both hands" if he makes his England Test debut against India on Thursday.

Broad was named in a 13-man squad for Lord's because Steve Harmison is rated doubtful because of a hernia problem.

And the 21-year-old celebrated by taking 5-76 against India for England Lions at Chelmsford.

"That was a good confidence boost because I now know I can get them out on flat wickets," he told BBC Sport.

"Getting the call for the Test matches is a dream come true as is going out and get a five-for against India's strong batting line-up."

Broad, who has played nine one-day internationals and three Twenty20 games for England, insisted he would not be nervous when he joins up with the squad at Lord's.

"I know all the lads, I've played A tours with the likes of Matt Prior and been at the Academy with people like Alastair Cook, so I'm just looking forward to getting in the changing room and having a bowl this week," he said.

"We'll see how it pans out. I'm not sure how Steve Harmison's going at the moment. But if he misses out, it will be up to me to train well this week and hopefully get an opportunity."

Broad will not have far to look for advice as his father Chris was a member of England's victorious 1986-87 Ashes team and scored more than 1,600 runs in 25 Tests.

"I speak to my Dad most days, not really about anything technical, but more about enjoying the game. He's a great man to speak to about anything like that because he's been there and done it, had the ups and downs.

"I'll chat to him throughout the week and I'm sure he'll just tell me to enjoy it if I get the chance."

Broad, who will compete against James Anderson for a place in the final XI if Harmison is ruled out, believes there is little to choose between the two sides.

"India have got a very strong batting line-up, but then England's batting line-up have been doing fantastically well over the last couple of years - and England are a force to be reckoned with in Test match cricket.

"India have also got a good bowling unit, but the Lions proved they aren't unbeatable. It should be an intense and close-fought Test match series," he added.
