Bopara must rest his injury for at least a fortnight |
Essex all-rounder Ravi Bopara is doubtful for England's one-day series against West Indies because of a thigh muscle injury. Bopara suffered the injury while fielding in Essex's Championship game against Middlesex at Lord's.
Essex physio Mark Thomas expects the 22-year-old to regain full fitness in two to three weeks.
But that may not been soon enough for the Twenty20 internationals on 28/29 June or the limited overs series.
The injury is a setback for Bopara, who came to the fore during the Cricket World Cup earlier this year and was looking forward to enhancing his international credentials.
He played in eight of England's nine matches in the Caribbean and made a maiden half century in a dramatic last-ball defeat by Sri Lanka.
Bopara has been in prolific form for Essex since returning home with more than 470 runs in the Championship, including a career-best 229 against Northants, and 370 to help his side reach the Friends Provident Trophy semi-finals.
England's one-day squad will be announced on Friday.
And the selectors now face a headache to find another suitable replacement for Andrew Flintoff, who recently underwent surgery on his ankle.
