Ian Bell congratulates Matt Prior on his maiden Test century

Prior hit an unbeaten 126 on debut in the draw at Lord's and added a half-century in the win at Headingley.

The 25-year-old impressed Kent's South African all-rounder Andrew Hall with a hard-hitting 76 in Sussex's Friends Provident Trophy loss to Kent.

"He's a very aggressive batsman who's been scoring runs at a good pace - and he looks in great form," said Hall.

"I see no reasons why the selectors won't go and back him for the one-dayers as well. He's a youngster with years ahead of him."

Paul Nixon, 36, did well for England during the World Cup and would seem to be the man in possession.

But Prior's form could persuade the selectors to recall him to the one-day squad for the first time since he played his 12th and last one-day international against India in Lahore on 15 April.

"I know at one stage the guys were saying that Nixon might be too old before the World Cup," added Hall, who scored a match-winning century for Kent in Sunday's match.

"Not taking anything away from him - he played exceptionally well - but looking at the way Matt's playing, my decision would be to go with him."

Prior is set to win his third Test cap against the West Indies at Old Trafford on Thursday, when England will seek to clinch the series.
