Middlesex batsman Owais Shah feels he is ready for another England call-up, saying his game is in a "good state". England will have to cover some injured batsmen when announcing their squad for the first Test against West Indies.
And Shah told BBC Radio Five Live: "I feel I am striking the ball reasonably well and feel in a good state of mind.
"It would be wonderful to play for England. If the call comes up, great. If not, I have to keep working hard and keep knocking hard on the door."
Shah, 28, has played just one Test match, hitting 88 in Mumbai in March 2006.
He owed that place to Alastair Cook's illness and has been unable to force his way into the international arena since then.
Many have felt he was unlucky not to add to his 18 one-day international caps over the winter after a fine 2006 for Middlesex, though he has struggled in ODIs for England.
However, with Kevin Pietersen and Michael Vaughan looking odds-against to be fully fit for Lord's on 17 May, Shah is back in the equation.
He said: "If I have done enough to fit the bill then hopefully I will do well."
Asked by Five Live reporter Kevin Howells if he feared he had struggled to "fit the bill" under previous coach Duncan Fletcher, Shah said: "I scored quite a few runs in county cricket and so not to get a look-in then... then perhaps I didn't.
"But you can't hold that against any coach. You just wish the England team the best success.
"It would have been even better to be part of the selectors' plans, but with the new coach [Peter Moores] time will tell."
