Second 'Test' Bogra, day three (close): Bangladesh A 152 v England A 251-8
 | Scoring was difficult - I think everyone found that |
An innings of 92 by opener Nick Compton put England A in a strong position at the end of day three in the second 'Test' against Bangladesh A at Bogra. Compton missed out on a century when he was bowled attempting a reverse sweep but England A's total of 251-8 gave them a 99-run lead at the close.
"It's a shot you play when runs are needed. There's an element of risk but it can be useful," he commented.
Stuart Broad earlier finished with 4-72 as Bangladesh A were all out for 152.
They managed to add 31 to their overnight score before paceman Broad and Yorkshire leg-spinner Adil Rashid picked up the last two wickets.
Broad ended a 66-run partnership between Sagir Hossain and Enamul Haque Jr by having Hossain caught at short leg by Alex Loudon for 47.
Rashid then found the edge of Haque's bat and Steven Davies made no mistake behind the stumps to dismiss him for 24.
With the opening day washed out by rain, England were looking to try and make up for lost time but suffered two early setbacks when Will Jefferson departed for 13 and skipper Michael Yardy was run out for one.
Michael Carberry was lbw to Nadif Chowdhury for 26 but Compton and Matt Prior added 74 for the fourth wicket before Prior holed out in the deep for 37.
Compton was next to go after he and Davies (39) had seen England into the lead and with one day to go, coach Peter Moores remained hopeful of victory.
"I think the players have done superbly to put themselves in a winning position in a Test match after four sessions of play having lost the first day completely," he commented.
"This is not dissimilar to the position in the first Test and we'll go about day four in the same positive fashion."
