Strauss to skipper youthful Lions
Andrew Strauss
Strauss has been a mainstay of the Test team since 2004
Andrew Strauss will lead an exciting looking England Lions team in the three-day tour match with India at Chelmsford starting on 13 July.

The second string side is a selection of emerging talent, featuring teenage Yorkshire leg-spinner Adil Rashid and Essex all-rounder Ravi Bopara.

Promising Australian-born Warwickshire batsman Tim Ambrose keeps wicket.

Stuart Broad and Owais Shah are given further opportunity to impress, having played in the recent one-day series.

The England selection is in marked contrast to the previous Lions match against West Indies at New Road in June.

That side featured seasoned campaigners such as veteran Leicestershire wicket-keeper Paul Nixon, Worcestershire captain Vikram Solanki and his county colleagues Gareth Batty and Kabir Ali.

The latest line-up places far more emphasis on players likely to play for England for years to come, and only Shah and Strauss are over-25.

Seamer Graham Onions becomes the fourth Durham player to wear England colours this season, joining Broad and another rangy paceman, Chris Tremlett of Hampshire, in a useful-looking pace attack.

Strauss is in need of some runs after a mediocre series against West Indies in which he made only one half century.

The 30-year-old left-hander, who averages 41 from 40 Tests with 10 hundreds, was left out of the one-day squad.

England Lions: Andrew Strauss (captain, Middlesex), Tim Ambrose (wicket-keeper, Warwickshire), Ravi Bopara (Essex), Tim Bresnan (Yorkshire), Stuart Broad (Leicestershire), Joe Denly (Kent), Graham Onions (Durham), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Owais Shah (Middlesex), Chris Tremlett (Hampshire), Jonathan Trott (Warwickshire).
