Hussain part of Ashes review team

Former Essex star Hussain was England captain for four years
The England and Wales Cricket Board has announced the review team to examine the Ashes series whitewash.

Former golf administrator Ken Schofield was named as the chairman on Tuesday.

He will be joined by six former England players, topped by the captain from 1999 to 2003, Nasser Hussain - now a respected media pundit.

Nick Knight, Angus Fraser, Hugh Morris, Mickey Stewart and Brian Rose make up a team which is targeting completion of its review in March this year.

The official remit is that they review "Team England performances during the period 2003-7, and how these should be improved."

And the goal is to seek a way for England to "regain the Ashes in 2009 and win an ICC global one-day event during the period 2007-11."

I hope I shall be able to contribute the view of the England cricket supporter

Knight, who retired from cricket in 2006, was Warwickshire captain and played 17 Tests and 100 one-day internationals.

Stewart, the oldest member of the panel at 74, was cricket manager of England when they last won an Ashes series in Australia, in 1986-87.

Morris is the "insider" - the ECB's deputy chief executive - and Fraser played 46 Tests before retiring to become the Independent's cricket correspondent.

Rose is Somerset's current director of cricket and said it was an "honour" for both the club and himself to have been invited to be on the panel.

"I am delighted to feel that I can help England out, as well as county cricket because there will be lots of implications for the domestic first class game from this review that will then be passed through into the international side.

"My experiences over the last 18 months as director of cricket at Somerset have highlighted some of the deficiencies in the system, which I am hoping that I can feed into the review process," he commented.

Schofield, former PGA European Tour executive director, said: "Cricket has been a passion of mine for many years.

"And, apart from experiences from another sport, I hope I shall be able to contribute the view of the England cricket supporter to this important review."

ECB chairman David Morgan said: "The board has determined that this review forms a critical element of ECB's planning for the four-year cycle, which commences immediately after the 2007 World Cup."
