Giles took 4-101 & 2-90 in his only Test in Australia in 2002

Panesar has taken 32 wickets in 10 Tests since his debut earlier this year but Giles said: "There could be situations where we could both play.

"It's important we work together to beat the Australians.

"I can learn stuff from Monty and hopefully he can from me and if we work together we can beat the Aussies."

Giles last played for England against Pakistan in November 2005.

But after a year of uncertainty following two hip operations, he is now upbeat about his fitness.

"It feels wonderful. Whereas before it was weak and collapsed there is no problem with the weight going through it now, I'm chuffed," said the 33-year-old.

He will travel with England to the Champions Trophy in India next month in order to continue his recovery.

"I've missed being around the guys, being over there I can play every day I can bowl a lot, there'll be plenty of net bowlers and I can do all my cricket-related stuff.

"I'm in the shape of my life at the moment, I'm as light as I've been for over 10 years, feeling strong and relishing getting back into cricket."
