Vaughan underwent his latest knee operation earlier this month |
Michael Vaughan is still aiming to play some part in England's Ashes tour as he bids to recover from knee surgery. "That's the goal I've set myself, and that the medical team have set me.
"It's a long road ahead but I'm looking forward to getting back to playing cricket sooner rather than later," he told Five Live Sport.
Vaughan led England to their first win over Australia for 18 years in 2005 but has since been injured for the series against India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
The 31-year-old has struggled with knee problems, and resorted to more surgery after not being able to recover fully since breaking down early on last winter's tour to India.

But England chairman of selectors David Graveney has backed Vaughan to fight back from his injury woes.
"He's a determined character and if he can come back, he will come back," said Graveney.
"There is no doubt the rehabilitation programme he is on is a very long haul for him and anyone would find it very frustrating to go through what he's been through.
"I'm sure he is very frustrated at not being able to play for England but he is a strong character and I'm sure he'll do everything possible to come back."
